Hand Carved Garden Quartz (Lodolite) Skull by Wilson Venturini

This is one of those pieces that surprised us.

Neither Christian nor I are particularly drawn to skull carvings. In fact, if anything, Christian usually likes them even less than I do. So when we were walking through the Tucson Gem Show and he couldn’t stop coming back to this piece, I knew there had to be something special about it.

And honestly, he was right.

This double-sided skull was hand carved by Wilson Venturini, a master Brazilian carver who has spent decades working with quartz. The Venturini family is known throughout the mineral world for their extraordinary craftsmanship, and they were involved in supplying the massive quartz installations at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, including the famous quartz spheres and obelisk.

What makes this piece even more special is that it was carved by Wilson himself. Now in his seventies, he has spent a lifetime working with stone, and you can see that experience in every detail.

The material is beautiful Garden Quartz, also known as Lodolite, filled with natural inclusions that create entire landscapes within the crystal. Every angle reveals something different, and the deeper you look, the more details begin to emerge.

What I love most about this piece is that it feels like two works of art in one. Turn it around and you have an entirely different perspective, an entirely different expression, and an entirely different experience.

Out of all the things we saw in Tucson, this was one of the pieces Christian simply would not leave behind.

After spending time with it, I completely understand why.
