Golden Rutilated Quartz Hippo

Let’s just address the elephant… or rather the hippo… in the room.

Yes, this little guy is expensive.

The first time I saw the price tag I had the same reaction you’re probably having right now.

Then I picked him up.

The golden rutile running through this piece is absolutely stunning. Every angle catches another flash of gold, and the transparency allows you to see the rutile weaving throughout the carving.

Then there are the toes.

I know that’s a strange thing to focus on, but look at them.

The toes are ridiculous.

One thing I love about Starborn carvings is that somebody clearly took their time with this. The craftsmanship is exceptional. The wrinkles, the expression, the proportions, the tiny feet. Every detail was thoughtfully carved.

At the end of the day, this isn’t a piece for someone looking for the biggest carving.

It’s a piece for someone who appreciates exceptional material, remarkable craftsmanship, and the amount of work that goes into bringing a carving like this to life.
