Nontronite Frog on Quartz | France

Okay, this may be one of the cutest mineral specimens we have ever had.

This is natural Nontronite on Quartz from France that has been hand carved by Starborn into a little frog sitting on a cluster of mushrooms, and it could not possibly belong anywhere other than our Enchanted Forest Collection.

Nontronite is already a really cool mineral to find, but getting it naturally formed together with a beautiful piece of Quartz like this is SO much harder to come across. Usually when we find Nontronite, it is not sitting on this kind of substantial, gorgeous Quartz specimen. This is all one natural piece, which is exactly why I was so excited when I found it.

And I love that the carving was designed around what nature already created. The green Nontronite became this little frog sitting on his mushrooms while the natural Quartz was left underneath him. The color is completely natural too. Nontronite gets these beautiful greens from the iron in the mineral, and fun little fact, it was actually named after the Nontron area of France, which makes having a French specimen even cooler.

And I mean LOOK AT HIM.

He genuinely looks like a frog you would stumble across after wandering a little too far into an enchanted forest. Maybe he gives you directions home. Maybe he sends you on a side quest. Maybe if you lick him you get a little high. Actually, please do not lick the frog. 😂

He is whimsical, magical and such an incredible combination of an actual collectible mineral specimen and tiny piece of fantasy art. This is exactly the kind of thing I wanted our Enchanted Forest Collection to be filled with.
