I don’t bring home a lot of mineral specimens.
Most of the time I’m drawn to carvings, spheres, and statement pieces. But the second I saw this at the gem show, I knew it was coming home with me.
The combination of colors is what stopped me in my tracks. A beautiful honey-colored calcite sits on a bed of soft pink chalcedony covered in sparkling crystals, creating a specimen that feels both delicate and dramatic at the same time.
Then you notice the rainbows hidden inside the calcite.
And then you realize just how large the calcite is.
That’s the part that got me.
Pieces like this don’t come around very often. The color combination alone is unusual, but finding it with such a substantial calcite crystal and beautiful overall aesthetics makes it even more special.
This specimen comes from Charcas, San Luis Potosí, Mexico and retains its original collection card from the Richard Lewis Collection, something I always love to see with older mineral specimens.
Some pieces are beautiful.
Some pieces are rare.
Every once in a while you find one that is both.
If you’d like additional photos, measurements, weight, or videos, we’re always happy to provide them.
