Bubbly Blue Chalcedony

I love chalcedony.

More specifically, I love chalcedony when it grows like this.

The soft rounded bubbles, the smooth texture, and the way the entire piece seems to flow naturally from one formation to the next. There has always been something about botryoidal chalcedony that catches my eye, and this piece is a beautiful example of why.

The color certainly didn’t hurt either.

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you already know I have absolutely no self-control when it comes to this shade of blue. It’s the kind of color that always seems to find its way into my life.

We found this through a brother and sister at a gem show whose father personally collects these specimens in the mountains of Peru. They showed us photos from the trip, and I always love knowing the story behind where a piece comes from.

For me, this specimen is the perfect combination of everything I love about chalcedony. The color, the bubbly formations, the overall aesthetics, and the story behind how it was collected all came together in a way that made it impossible for me to leave behind.
